Very Cherry Raw Kefir Smoothies

This smoothie tastes like summertime itself. Freeze any smoothie leftovers in popsicle moulds for a refreshing treat later on.

Place all ingredients in blender (you will get smoother results in a high-speed blender like a vita-mix). Blend on high for about a minute or until it’s smooth enough to your liking. Serve and enjoy!

Smoothie Enhancer from the Garden

I make these wonderful smoothie enhancers when my spring and fall garden is filled to the brim with mild green lettuces, broccoli raab, fennel fonds, and spinach.

Place the greens and water in a blender, food processor, or in a wide mouth mason jar for an immersion blender.
Finely chop the greens with your choice appliance.
Fill the ice cube tray with greens. Add any excess water to the green filled cubes. Adding the excess water will allow you to remove the green cubes easier from the ice cube tray.
Freeze over-night.
Remove the green cubes from the ice cube tray and move to an air tight container in the freezer or toss in any smoothie that you want to add extra flavor and vitamins to.

2-Minute Dairy-Free Sipping Chocolate

This satisfies any chocolate craving without the use of dairy. It also makes a delicious ice cream when churned in an ice cream maker.

This recipe works best in a high-speed blender like a Vita-Mix, but you can use any blender. Place all ingredients in the blender and blend on high for 45-60 seconds. If you’d like it warm, blend it for 2 minutes.

‘Aseer Manga (Homemade Mango-Coconut Juice)

Before reaching for a packaged drink or soda at the store, consider making this ‘aseer manga (mango-coconut juice) at home with fresh ingredients in under 10 minutes.

Add all ingredients to a blender, and whirl till all ingredients are well blended. If using frozen mango, use the ‘ice crush’ option on your blender first, then use another milder blend function.
Pour into sealable glass pitchers or bottles and chill in the fridge for several hours before serving.
Shake well before serving. Enjoy!

Preserving Ripe Bananas

If you like to use bananas to make banana bread, or frozen, in a fruit smoothie, here is an easy and economical way to always have some on hand.

Purchase very ripe bananas. Often, you can get them at a discounted price.
Peel them and fill freezer bags.
Store in the freezer and remove just how much you need for your recipe.

Sweet Potato Fly

Sweet Potato Fly is a fermented sweet potato drink that will remind you of ginger ale. The drink is sweet and refreshing.

Mix 1 cup of water with the mace. Bring the mixture to a boil. Remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to cool.
Using a coarse grater, grate the sweet potatoes. Rinse the sweet potatoes under cold water to remove the starch. Volume wise this will look like a lot of sweet potato once it is grated.
In a large bowl or crockpot, combine the grated sweet potatoes, the rest of the water, sugar, whey, the juice from the limes and the grated peel of the limes, the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and eggshell.
Add the boiled mace.
Stir the mixture gently. Cover the mixture and store in a warm place for three days.
Strain the mixture with a coarse sieve to remove the sweet potato. Then, strain again with a fine mesh sieve lined with a double layer of cheesecloth. Place the strained sweet potato fly in jars and refrigerate. Shake or stir before serving. Serve cold. The sweet potato fly will last about 1 week in the refrigerator.
