What is a Real Food Recipe?

All recipes on Eat Nourishing should follow guidelines set forth by the Weston A. Price Foundation. A brief summary of these recommendations is located on our Real Food 101 page. In addition, special real food diet recipes such as Paleo, GAPS, and SCD are also welcomed.

I’m a blogger, can I use some of the recipes from my blog/website?

Yes, only be sure to include a link back to the original post in the provided field on the upload form, so your recipe will link back to your original post. This is very important to make sure you don’t lose any SEO juice on your site. Posting some of your recipes on Eat Nourishing is a great way to get new followers to your blog as they will often click through to see the original post. You will retain all copyrights of your work.

Can I share a recipe I made that I found online or from a cookbook ?

Yes, but there are strict guidelines and etiquette to follow. Copyright law for recipes does not protect the ingredients or the idea for a recipe. However, you may not publish a recipe word-for-word as that is considered a violation of copyright. The etiquette for publishing a previously published recipe are as follows:

  • You must change the language of the recipe (specifically the introduction/headnotes and the instructions/method) and rewrite it in your own words with your own voice. Afterall, readers want to hear your experience with a recipe and how you made it.
  • Every single ingredient can stay the same, or you may choose to modify them. Either way is not a violation of copyright.
  • Photos may not be re-published without express permission from the photographer, not even with attribution unless clearly marked as Creative Commons Use (which most are not). In other words, you must use your own photo.
  • Be sure to click the option on the upload form that says “Recipe adapted from…” so that you may attribute the recipe to its original source (either link to the webpage, or link to the cookbook on Amazon). This is considered a courtesy etiquette in the food blogosphere

When is a recipe completely yours? That’s a tricky situation. Read more about recipe attribution and legalities on the food blog alliance page.

How do I submit recipes?

Once logged in to your free account we provide a simple to use publishing form for you to create and submit your real food recipes. You can find a link to this in the very top-most toolbar.

What if there is already a recipe with my title?

We try not to publish recipes with the same title. More often than not, it is simple to append additional adjectives to the recipe title in order to make it unique. (i.e. “Sprouted Cornbread” versus “Sprouted Honey Cornbread”)

Can I manage my account?

You can manage your profile information including email, username as it appears on the site and other profile information. You can also view your recipe stats which are updated weekly. *You can edit your recipes by visiting your “MY Recipe” page located on the very top toolbar.

*This functionality is being added and will be available very soon!

Can I share my recipes with social networks?

Yes! we encourage you to share your list with your networks. Eat Nourishing has built in Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest integrations so that you can share your recipes and others you like with your social networks as soon as they are published online.

How do I earn Money?

We pay our SIP members revenue share for the recipes they publish. The earnings our members receive are based on a variety of factors. You are not guaranteed to earn money. The earnings for your recipes are unpredictable and are based on several components that may affect how much money you will earn for your recipes.. The components include, directly or indirectly, the following…

  1. Popularity of the recipes.
  2. Number and quality of inbound links to the recipes.
  3. Topic and timeliness of the recipe.
  4. How active you are on the site.
  5. Usefulness and interest of the recipe.
  6. Quality of the recipe writing.
  7. Amount of recipes that you share.

How long will it take before I start earning money?

You may start earning revenue on the first day of publication. Your recipes have the potential to earn money everyday they are online.

How much money can I earn?

There’s no limit. It really depends on the quality and quantity of your efforts. Eat Nourishing is not a “get rich quick” system. The revenue algorithm we use is complex and unpredictable, we cannot guarantee a fixed monthly income. Typically the SIP members who follow these tips while creating their recipes have had a higher revenue.

  1. Good Title: Your title needs to really say what the recipe is. Include the main ingredient and have 3 or 4 really good descriptive words. ‘Chicken Soup’, bad. ‘Gluten-free Chicken and Lentil Soup’, very good. A good title is key for search engines and is more likely to grab readers’ attention on social media sites as well.
  2. Mission of Eat Nourishing: The mission of Eat Nourishing is to provide a database of recipes to people who keep to Weston A. Price dietary guidelines as well as special diets such as GAPS, Paleo or Primal. In some way, your recipe ought to support this mission. Get creative with your recipe descriptions and instructions so the readers will understand the health benefits of your recipe. We have metrics that are able to gauge your recipes consistency, which play into the earnings algorithm to encourage writers to stick to the mission.
  3. Creativity and Interest: Yes, we need basics recipes like bone broth, yogurt, cheese, etc. These are important recipes that all traditional cooks should know.  Do not neglect them; there is a great deal of interest in them. Beyond the basics, people are looking for recipes that are creative and interesting ways to use ingredients they are already familiar with.
  4. Quality of your Recipes’ Content: Your title is the most important factor for your recipe. Make it interesting and make it relevant. Focus on having well-written and detailed instructions as well as a catchy introduction that includes keywords about your recipe, why you prepare things a certain way and why this recipe is nourishing. Short recipe instructions that simply state, “Mix everything together and serve” will not garner as much interest.
  5. Selection of Category and Special Tags: Sometimes a recipe may fit into more than one meal category, so carefully choose the best category where people will look for it. Eat Nourishing also allows you to place tags such as dietary restrictions and special planning on your recipes. Include all the tags your recipe can be associated with.
  6. Related Recipes: Let’s say you are making a pulled pork sandwich on a gluten-free, low-carb bun. Don’t presume one knows how to make the bun and don’t say ‘use whatever bread you want’, either. It would be better to upload both recipes so you can reference and link to one in the other. Referencing related, relevant recipes on Eat Nourishing in your description or instructions keeps readers on the site longer, which is good for site revenue (which is good for your revenue).

Is there a limit to how many recipes I can submit for publication?

No. Eat Nourishing has not put a restriction on the amount of recipes that you can submit. As long as you have a great recipe, we want you to share it! We will try and spread out your recipes if you upload a bunch at a time, so that you can get a long-term benefit.

How will I be paid?

Currently, Eat Nourishing only offers payments via Paypal.

When will I be paid?

Eat Nourishing pays the SIP members monthly. We track your total earnings on a month to month basis. At the end of each month we total your earnings and issue your payment, via Paypal, sometime around the 10th of the following month.

What about taxes?

At the end of the year, Eat Nourishing will generate and mail out a 1099-MISC tax form with your total yearly earnings calculated on that document for you to file taxes for all users who generate over $600 in annual earnings. We are not responsible for your taxes.
